A tragic altercation in the Bronx claimed the life of a hard-working father of four early Sunday morning. Trevor Hughes, 49, was fatally shot after confronting a man parked in his driveway, authorities reported.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. outside Hughes’ home on Fowler Avenue near Morris Park Avenue. According to police, Hughes returned home to find a car parked in his driveway, occupied by two men, including 46-year-old Lavar Davis.
Witnesses describe the confrontation escalating as Hughes challenged the men over the parking spot. Neighbor Akmell Edwards expressed disbelief over the argument, saying, “They dispute this is not a driveway. How you could dispute this is not a driveway when it’s clearly a driveway?”
During the heated exchange, Davis reportedly shot Hughes in the torso. Hughes was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities later arrested Davis, charging him with second-degree murder. His arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court remained pending as of Monday afternoon.
Hughes, known as a DJ and community-focused neighbor, was remembered fondly by those who knew him. Edwards shared how Hughes often went above and beyond to help others, stating, “If I go out to work early and there is snow, he’s going to shovel in the snow for my mother-in-law. He helped me cut the trees and do weird things in the house. I’m just, can’t even get the words. Caught off guard, just caught off guard.”
This tragic loss leaves a community in mourning for a man who was celebrated not only for his work ethic but for his kindness and generosity.
